Every three minutes, someone in the UK will develop dementia.
With dementia on the rise, communities across the country are making a stand, and Spelthorne is no different.
The new Dementia Friendly Spelthorne group is made up of multiple organisations committed to transforming the quality of life of people living with dementia in our area and the hundreds of people who care for them.
With your help we’d like to create a community where people living with dementia feel included and valued, and their friends and family to get the support they need.
On our website, you’ll find details of our Dementia Awareness Workshops and our new ‘Make a Pledge for Spelthorne’ initiative.
Whether you are a resident, business leader or community group representative, we’d love for you to get involved!
The Dementia Friendly Spelthorne Team
It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting.
• 225,000 people will develop dementia this year, that’s one every three minutes.
• 70% of people in care homes have dementia or severe memory problems.
• More than 25,000 people from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups in the UK are affected.
Dementia Friendly Spelthorne is passionate about raising awareness of dementia, and encouraging community organisations, businesses and charities to help us create a dementia-friendly borough.
We’re calling on organisations to sign-up to our ‘Dementia Friendly Pledge’.
If your organisation can commit to aspiring to work towards these three actions you’d officially be listed as a member of Dementia Friendly Spelthorne and will receive our badge to place in your window, on your social media channels and on your email footers.
Dementia Friendly Spelthorne runs free dementia awareness workshops across the area.
The sessions are short, digestible and ideal for anyone to attend. We follow the national Dementia Friends model. All attendees will receive an Action Card to take away – plus they’ll also get a badge to take home too!
